Most of us at one time or another dream about traveling. But unfortunately there are often a couple of things that stand in our way from traveling more…money and work.
Well, there is a way to turn those issues around and incorporate them into a $100,000 a year vacation, and it’s easier than you might think.
The photo on this page taken from an overwater bungalow while enjoying a Tahiti sunset is in fact mine. The reward I enjoyed from making money online creating travel websites.
One of the most used services online are travel bookings. In fact, over 55% now book their vacation online instead of visiting a bricks and mortar travel agent, and with airlines constantly competing with each other, low airfares means the number of people traveling both locally and international is continually growing. So what if you could capture some of these online bookings and earn that income the travel agent receives, without having to actually be a travel agent.
In fact, you could potentially earn a lot more than the travel agent, and it’s as simple as investing a couple of hundred dollars and know how to type. And once you have it working, you can then hopefully go on a permanent vacation, while earning a living at the same time.
Sounds too good to be true?.. Well it’s not, and here’s how you do it.
Travel Affiliate Marketing
Most popular travel sites such as Booking.com, Hotels.com and even many of the hotel chain websites have a link at the bottom of the sites labelled ‘Affiliates’. If you click on the link you’ll find they pay a commission for every lead you generate that turns into a sale. Depending on which service you are looking at, the average commission is between 6% and 20% of their profit from the sale, which on average equates to around $45 per sale on an average booking.
So, generate 10 sales at 45 per sale x 7 days a week, and that’s $3150 in commission each week, or $163,000 per year! And remember, that is based on just 10 sales a day, which is very achievable.
And just to prove this is achievable, yes the photo on this page is one I took myself on my own vacation to Tahiti, which was 100% self funded from one of my travel sites! You don’t need to work hard to afford a luxury vacation any more.
So here’s how it is done…
First you need to set up a website or blog. This is relatively easy with the right advise.
SELECT A TRAVEL NICHE
Niches always work better than just targeting everything. For instance it could be luxury Florida hotels, or hotels near theme parks, or pet friendly hotels.
GRAB YOUR DOMAIN NAME
Next you need to purchase a domain name. This can be done at any good domain registrar online, like Godaddy.com for as little as $12 per year. Ensure the name is available by doing a search on their site, and within minutes after purchasing the domain name you’ll receive the details.
HOSTING YOUR SITE
With your new Domain name all ready for use, you need a home for it. Head over to your favourite hosting company, such as BlueHost, and sign up for a hosting package. Ideally, you want to ensure they provide plenty of storage and bandwidth so that you have room to grow. There’s nothing worse than creating a great website, and later finding you need to move it because your hosting is too limited for your growth.
Bluehost priced ideally for those setting up a travel blog website, and their plans can be upgraded at any stage if required, though you’ll find the standard plans will be more than adequate.
Once you have signed up, you need to set up your blog on the hosting by installing WordPress. WordPress is pretty easy to setup, however if you sign up with the link below, as an affiliate of BlueHost, I’ll set up your WordPress installation for you free!
Just email me with at email@example.com once you have signed up with Bluehost and I’ll let you know what I need to set this up from you.
This is the first step in getting your new site up and running fast.
FINDING TRAVEL AFFILIATE PARTNERS
The next thing you need to do is look for your travel partners. If you go to the footer of any of the major travel booking sites, such as Booking.com, Hotels.com, Expedia or Hotelscombined.com and look for a link that says ‘Affiliates’, and you can sign up as an affiliate at no charge.
Most of these offer quick good commission on a per booking basis, however HotelsCombined offer a per lead basis if you go through their website, but if you go through Commission Factory and sign up for HotelsCombined you’ll get the ‘per sale’ payment instead, which is much more generous.
Once you sign up you will have access to their banner advertising creative content, and also text links. These both will contain your unique code for the travel sites.
You simply paste the code into your site, and when someone clicks on the banners and books, you get the commission value of the site!. It’s truly as simple as that!
Of course, to drive the traffic to your site you need quality content, so your travel blog site could be a travel directory or review site, or just be simply your own travel journal outlining the places you have visited with a story to go with each location. People prefer to book accommodation, and vacations in general, from experiences that have been shared rather than a travel agent just trying for the hard-sell.
PROMOTING THE SITE
Ok, so you’ve added the content, now how to get the traffic?
Well, the best way is by utilising the power of social media. Create a Facebook, Google Plus, Twitter and Instagram account. Once you have added your travel blog and published it on your new site, grab the URL (the weblink to the page) and paste it each of the social media pages and start sharing your adventures. This builds up authority for your site, increases your rankings naturally, as well as driving visitors from social media.
Grow your mailing list. Adding an email signup form on your blog is a great way to share your experiences, to drive visitors back to your website.
As they visit your site and absorb your travel articles, they’ll soon click on the affiliate links, and before you know it you are making cash for your income, or possibly your own self-funded adventure.
Happy blogging and safe travels!
